It is unclear how the snake managed to get in to the sewer pipes.
Blue Cross volunteer Peter Edge was shocked to discover the enormous serpent in a shop bathroom.
When the 30-year-old first set eyes upon the 6ft orange snake in a toilet bowl in the back of the Blue Cross charity shop in Solihull he initially believed that someone was pulling a prank on him, but when the creature started moving he realized that the enormous reptile was actually the real deal.
“When I saw it I was in shock more than anything else,” he said. “It’s not every day you see something like that. I thought it was a rubber snake at first and then it moved its head.”
With the help of the store’s assistant manager he was eventually able to free the snake’s tail from the back of the toilet cistern, but when they tried to capture it in a basket it managed to break free and promptly disappeared down the u-bend.
The RSPCA ( Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ) was called in but despite a thorough search of the building and surrounding area no sign of the snake could be found.
“We have kept the toilet door firmly shut ever since and keep checking to see if he has poked his head up again but we haven’t seen it,” said assistant manager Amy Wallis.
“I like snakes but I was still terrified when stood face-to-face with one.”
